Time Out Chicago chose two concerts at Ravinia Festival for their top 5 must-see classical concerts of the summer. Making the list at number three, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra plays the Oscar®-winning score as the full feature film Lord of the Rings -- The Fellowship of the Ring is shown on video screens in the pavilion and on the lawn on August 18 and 19. It's a great way to experience the movie and the orchestra for families, especially since kids 15 and under get free lawn admission.
The top classical pick for 2011, according to the magazine, is the Rufus Wainwright concert at Ravinia on August 14. The CSO joins Wainwright during the first half of the concert performing Five Shakespeare Sonnets, poetry with a full orchestra. Then it's pure Wainwright for the second half.
