Chicago Symphony Orchestra Celebrating 75 Years at Ravinia

For many, summer just isn’t summer until the CSO arrives at Ravinia. Music fans relish the Ravinia experience of listening to the incredible music under the stars while the candles flicker on the lawn. The CSO has remained the centerpiece of the music festival since 1936, when Ravinia became its summer residence. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the CSO at Ravinia and we will be celebrating all summer long with an ambitious lineup of music.

The 2011 CSO residency begins on July 7 with young piano superstar Lang Lang and runs through August 19. This season showcases the orchestra’s versatility with a world premiere, a Midwest premiere, timeless classic repertoire, superstar virtuosos, movie nights, a complete opera and two major commissions. This ambitious schedule is sure to excite the longtime classical music lover and entice new, young listeners.

Whether you choose to sit in the pavilion or relax on the lawn with your blankets and picnic spread, it is a great and affordable night out for dates or even family fun. Bring the kids because anyone 15 and under gets free lawn admission to any CSO concert all summer. Plus you can enjoy Family Space with the kids on select dates prior to the concert.
