James Conlon Gives the Measure of Mozart in Four Pre-Opera Talks

Ravinia Festival Music Director James Conlon, one of the world’s most acclaimed opera conductors, will discuss the masterworks of Mozart in four pre-concert discussions on Aug. 16, 17, 18 and 19. Conlon has scored great successes leading the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in operas at Ravinia—particularly a popular series of Mozart operas in the intimate 850-seat Martin Theatre, a venue the size Mozart himself would have used to present his work. This season, Conlon conducts one of Mozart’s most famous works, The Magic Flute in an evening performance on Aug. 16 and a matinee on Aug. 18, and Mozart’s first international hit, Idomeneo in the evening of Aug. 17 and the afternoon of Aug. 19. The talks will begin one hour before each performance and seating is first-come, first-served.
