Recipient of the prestigious Medalla Bellas Artes, the highest honor granted by the National Institute of Fine Arts in his native Mexico, Jorge Federico Osorio has been lauded throughout the world for his superb musicianship, powerful technique, vibrant imagination, and deep passion.
A Chicagoland resident for now more than 20 years, Osorio has been a frequent Ravinia artist during the summer seasons, having performed at the festival a dozen times since 1998, including the complete Beethoven concertos over two nights in 2010. This summer, the pianist returns for the opening night of the annual Chicago Symphony Orchestra residency, soloing on Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in between Marin Alsop conducting pieces by Joan Tower and Beethoven.
Osorio has also performed with many other world-leading ensembles, including the symphony orchestras of Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico; the Israel, Warsaw, and Royal Philharmonics; RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra (Dublin), Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai (Torino), São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, and more.
Osorio’s orchestral recordings include Beethoven’s five Piano Concertos and Choral Fantasy; both Brahms Concertos; and concertos by Chávez, Mozart, Ponce, Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Rodrigo, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, and Weinberg. Last summer, he released The French Album, featuring works by Jean-Philippe Rameau, Emmanuel Chabrier, Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, and Maurice Ravel.
